Fredrikson Stallard and Swarovski are pleased to present ‘Prologue’ at the 2014 Design Miami/Art Basel. In keeping with Prologue’s concept the artwork has evolved for its new setting in the Herzog and de Meuron exhibition space.
Prologue’s monumental structure is suspended from a single steel cross beam to address its relationship with the space through its weight and tension. It does this in such a way that Prologue creates a new chapter which allows the audience to engage with its material and physical qualities.
Prologue’s luminous lens mimics the iconography of the sun and it shimmers as it constantly reflects and refracts light. Holding over 8,000 golden Swarovski crystal droplets Prologue will glow under the lighting of the Swarovski exhibition space. This regeneration of Prologue aptly fits to the original concept of new beginnings, rebirth and life.
Ian and Patrik will further be discussing the topic of PARTNERSHIP AND PATRONAGE: COMMISSIONING CONTEMPORARY DESIGN at a talk with Jana Scholze, Curator of Contemporary Furniture at the V&A museum and Nadja Swarovski on Tuesday 17th June at 2.30pm – Design Miami Talk.
