DRAGON VASE

Title
DRAGON VASE

Design
PATRIK FREDRIKSON & IAN STALLARD

Year
2003

Size
H400 mm

Material
Porcelain

Colours
Black Bisque Porcelain, White Gloss Glazed Porcelain

Context
'What keeps everyone watching Fredrikson Stallard's work is the intelligence it manifests, like the early series of vases that riffed on thousands of years of design history, with a three-dimensional dragon popping out of the top, say, or visible structural bolts connecting a seam that most ceramics keep hidden.
''Their thinking was beyond clever,'' retail extraordinaire Murray Moss says of their ceramics. ''It was revisionist.'' This ability, demonstrated early on and still evident in their work, to stay one step ahead but with an eye on the past will keep these two in play over the long haul.'
Art and Auction, 2008.
